Eclectic Elements: Parisienne Influences

- by Brenda Brown

Paris  -   to me this evokes the wonderful smell of my favourite perfume, the sights of this beautiful city and a visit there last March, the roadside cafes, beautiful jewellery, lots of lace and booths full of vintage items beside the River Seine.

My altered bottle project has been influenced by a number of these things.

It started life as a modern Calvin Klein Eternity perfume bottle, one that I have been using and has just a small amount left to use.

I experimented using the Vintaj Patina Victorian Gold metal ink, which changed the look completely.

Over the Vintaj, I stippled some snowflake fresco finish acrylic paint. It had a few problems taking out some of the gold, but perseverance won in the end and I got it completely covered.

To seal it, I sprayed it with gold spray and sparkle. To get this lovely effect.

I downloaded a free French perfume label, changed the size in PSE, cut it out and distressed it with walnut stain and vintage photo. The label can be found at VintageFeedSacks.

I played with lots of lace, ribbons and flowers as embellishments, but it didn't look right with the shape of this bottle so I used some old jewelry to add these trinkets that remind me of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, pearls, baubles, a cherub and a metal corner that I cut down to fit on the back, making sure I didn't prevent the spray from working.

I hope the theme of Paris has inspired you this month.

Thanks for reading.

  2. This is absolutely exquisite, Brenda. I love all the little details and the finish you have achieved with the paint, but my favourite part is the cherub which works so well on the lid of the bottle. I love it!
