Paint: Background created using dry brush technique.

Stencil: Used punch to create stencil.

Scribble: Traced around stencil 3 or 4 times moving it each time slightly to create scribble effect.

Punch: Punch out flower.

Stamp: Over flower using StazOn ink.

Scrunch and Layer: Each flower to add shape and dimension.

Centre: Punch out 2 mini snowflakes which become stamens and add tiny little button.

Add: To your projects.

Madeforpaper: Creative Paper Flowers

- by Lis

This month is all about making faux flowers.  I thought I would do two cards each with paper flowers. My first card is using die cut flowers, and my second is using a handmade pattern.

Card 1: FLY

1. I used Tim Holtz/Sizzix Tattered Flowers to cut out my flowers.  (My flower will have 6 layers.)  After I cut out my layers on plain white card stock, I rubber stamped them on both sides with a writing stamp in black archival ink. I used archival so it wouldn't smear when I colored the flowers.

2. I curled each petal up with a wooden stick.

3. For the two largest flowers: I took one and cut a slit between two petals. I overlapped the petals so that I had one flower with 6 petals and one flower with 5 petals.

4. I assembled my flower using glue dots to adhere each layer.

5. You can see the dimension in my flower in the picture below. You can also see why I stamped the layers on both sides.

6. I decided to add sparkle to the petals first.  I used a craft mat, squeezed out a glob and used a large flat brush to paint the petal edges. I added a a large dot of glitter glue to the center of my flower.

7. I used Pearl Magenta Lumiere paint and a Popsicle stick to drip the paint onto the flower.  I held the flower at almost a vertical angle so the paint could drip down across the petals.

8. I like it!

9.  Didn't want to detract from the flower so I didn't add stem or leaves.  I did add an organza butterfly for some color.

Second Card: TULIP

1. For my second card I wanted to try something different.  Although I like punching or die cutting out my flowers and petals because it's fast, I decided to create my own pattern that I would use to create paper flowers.

I decided on a tulip.  I freehand cut three pieces out of sturdy card stock.  I happened to have green on hand. Color makes no difference.

2. Here is my tulip pattern assembled.  Not bad!  I was going for one of those more lacy tulips.

3. I chose some really pretty pink patterned paper. Once I decided on where I wanted to cut out my petals, I turned over my paper and traced the pattern onto the back.

4. Here are my petals all cut out.  One is put together (left) and one separated so that you can see the individual pieces. Because my pink paper is soft, I edged the petals in brown so they wouldn't get lost in the background.

5. To create dimension, I attached mounting tape to the tops of the petals only, using glue dots at the base.

6. One tulip put together. You can see how the mounting tape and layering all contribute to the dimension even though I only really have one layer.

7. I used tissue tape, twisted, for the stems. I added some brown ink lightly to the sides.

8. I hand cut grass from some soft green patterned paper and edged it in a turquoise blue.

9. This is a close up of the tulip completed.

10. And here is my completed card again.

I hope that you try this technique too.
